ClipLedge can keep your text clips in step across the Macs you use, with no account and no server. It works by sharing a folder your Macs already sync, iCloud Drive by default.
What syncs between your Macs, and what does not
Only the small, textual slice of your history travels between your Macs:
- Plain text, rich text and links.
- Up to 300 of the most recent such clips, each under 256 KB.
Images, files and app objects stay on the Mac they were copied on. Nothing is uploaded to any server; the clips only ever sit in the folder you choose, which your Macs sync themselves.
Turn on sync
On each Mac, open Settings > Sync and switch on “Sync text clips between your Macs”. The first time, ClipLedge offers an iCloud Drive/ClipLedge folder. Use Change to pick any folder both Macs sync, such as another cloud drive or a shared network folder. Set the same folder on every Mac.
The status line shows how many other Macs are present and when sync last ran.
How the merge works
Each Mac writes one file into the shared folder and reads the other devices’ files every few seconds, merging their clips into its own history by matching on a content hash, so nothing is duplicated. Because each Mac only ever writes its own file, two Macs never fight over one file. A clip new to a Mac lands in the right place in Recent by its original copy time, and a clip already there keeps the newer time and stays pinned if either Mac had it pinned.
Privacy and the license
Sync keeps your clips in a folder you already trust; there is no ClipLedge server in the path. Like recording, sync is part of the licensed app: it works during the trial and pauses when the trial ends until you enter a license key.
